2016 was an excellent year for the music industry. Many incredible covers were released throughout the year. Here at CelebMix, we review what we thought were some of the best covers from 2016.
1. ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’ (Charlie Puth featuring Selena Gomez) – Michael Sutthakorn
Michael re-wrote this song and interpreted it to a personal experience he had gone through. He changed up the lyrics and it was an incredible cover!

2. ‘Perfect Strangers’ (Jonas Blue featuring JP Cooper)/’What Do You Mean?’ (Justin Bieber) – Joey Devries
After supporting Little Mix on the second leg of their ‘Get Weird’ UK and Ireland tour, Joey released several covers throughout the year. He has also done several headline tours, allowing fans the opportunity to see him live. This cover of ‘Perfect Strangers’ was, in our view, one of his best covers this year – the acoustic rhythm of the song was amazing!

3. ‘Shoutout To My Ex’ (Little Mix) – Caitlyn Vanbeck
‘Shoutout To My Ex’ was the best anthem that came out of 2016! There were many covers of the song, but one that stood out for us was Caitlyn Vanbeck’s version. Caitlyn appeared on X Factor in 2016, but was unfortunately sent home by Simon at the Judges’ Houses stage. However, she has proved him wrong by releasing many incredible covers – one of which being ‘Shoutout To My Ex.’

6. ‘Rockabye’ (Clean Bandit featuring Sean Paul and Anne Marie) – Samantha Harvey
Samantha Harvey is an incredible singer, who is always posting covers and doing her own version of the song. Her version of ‘Rockabye’ was incredible, and it sounded completely different to the original.
7. ‘Take Me Home’ (Jess Glynne) – Jack Morlen
Jack Morlen has continued to make a name for himself throughout 2016. He has also posted several covers, which received an extremely good response from fans. His ‘Take Me Home’ cover was one of our favourite covers!
8. ‘Cold Water’ (Major Lazer featuring Justin Bieber and MØ) – Road Trip
Road Trip took on one of 2016 biggest songs – and they did an incredible cover of it. After recently becoming a five piece, we are excited to see what 2017 brings for the band.
9. ‘That’s My Girl’ (Fifth Harmony) – The Vamps
When doing their Live Lounge performance, The Vamps covered Fifth Harmony’s ‘That’s My Girl’ – and it was a brilliant cover of the song. The performance also provided the individual band members – Brad, James, Connor and Tristan – with the opportunity to showcase their musical abilities.
10. ‘Ex’s and Oh’s’ (Elle King) – Fifth Harmony
Fifth Harmony covered the song ‘Ex’s and Oh’s’ during their Live Lounge performance and the song really suited them! The girls were all provided with an opportunity to show off their incredible vocals, making it an amazing cover.
11. ‘Don’t Wanna Know’ (Maroon 5 featuring Kendrick Lamar) – Conor Maynard
All of Conor Maynard’s covers are brilliant, but we especially loved his version of ‘Don’t Wanna Know.’ He changed the song up completely and we absolutely loved his cover of the song!
12. ‘Closer’ (The Chainsmokers featuring Halsey) – HomeTown
Even though HomeTown announced their split in December and the members – Dean, Cian, Ryan, Brendan, Josh and Dayl – are now doing their own thing, this was one of our favourite covers that they did while together.

After HomeTown split, Brendan has been making a name for himself as a solo artist, and it was announced that he would be representing Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest. He has also released several covers, our favourite being ‘Writing’s On The Wall.’ We look forward to following Brendan’s solo journey.
14. ‘Into You’ (Ariana Grande) – Luke Friend
Luke completely changed the song up, and we absolutely love it! It really suited his voice. We can’t wait to see more from Luke in 2017.
15. ‘All Night’ (The Vamps) – New Hope Club
The band covered The Vamps’ ‘All Night’ and this was one of our favourite covers that New Hope Club did in 2016. New Hope Club are supporting The Vamps on their UK and Ireland tour in 2017, so make sure you go and see them!
16. ‘Work From Home’ (Fifth Harmony) – Clean Bandit featuring Louisa Johnson
