The very first teaser trailer for the long awaited fourth season of the BBCs hit detective series Sherlock has been released today, because apparently Comic Con hasn’t been exciting enough this year.
The trailer was released at the panel dedicated exclusively to the show, which has won itself a significant fan following; it may only air for 3 episodes every 2 or 3 years, but the show is a critical and commercial success, and has further increased the star power of lead actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
The trailer teases the return of fan favourite and Sherlock’s arch enemy Moriarty who, despite dying at the end of series 2, made a surprise return in the dying moments of the season 3 finale. Whether or not Moriarty, portrayed to acclaim by Andrew Scott, has returned from the dead is dubious, since he only returned in the capacity of a brief, repetitive video clip that appeared simultaneously on every TV screen in the country, and it does seem curious that he could survive a bullet to the brain.
The trailer, packed with action and also featuring Amanda Abbington as Mary Morstan, Una Stubbs as Mrs Hudson and Louise Brealey as Molly Hooper, can be seen in full below.
We’re probably going to be watching it on repeat until 2017.
