BTS has broken yet another record and we’re not at all surprised. Earlier this morning, the group released a remix of their fan-favorite track “Mic Drop” from their album Love Yourself: Her. The track is produced by DJ Steve Aoki and features rapper Desiigner in the first verse. Hours after its release, the song climbed to the highly-coveted #1 spot on the U.S. iTunes Top Songs Chart, knocking Camila Cabello’s “Havana” to #2.
The ranking makes BTS the first ever K-Pop group to make the claim and only the second K-Pop act overall. Psy was the first K-Pop act to reach #1 with his viral hit “Gangnam Style,” which topped the U.S. iTunes Chart in 2012.
BTS previously made history by becoming the highest-ranking K-Pop group on the U.S. iTunes Top Songs Chart with “DNA,” which debuted at #4 in September. With the release of the “Mic Drop” remix, the group has broken its own record.
Apart from the U.S., the remix topped the iTunes charts in about 40 other countries. The song’s music video, which released simultaneously as the single, also became the #1 trending video on YouTube with over 7.2 million views and 1.6 million likes eight hours after being released.
