Throughout September, we’ve seen a number of our favourite artists deliver some incredible performances as part of Radio 1’s Live Lounge. Artists including Justin Bieber, Craig David, OneRepublic, Olly Murs, and Clean Bandit and Louisa Johnson, have been performing their most recent tracks, as well as special covers for the Radio 1 listeners.
Today was the turn of Charlie Puth, and boy did he deliver an incredible session.
He took to the Live Lounge for a stripped back version of his latest single ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’, accompanied by a guitarist. His heavenly vocals are still ringing in our ears – take a listen below.
As with every Live Lounge, Charlie also delivered a special cover on the piano, with the singer opting for The 1975’s ‘Somebody Else’.
During a chat with the station, Charlie was asked which song by another artist he wish he had written, and he replied with ‘Somebody Else’. Of the song, he said: “I love the simplicity of the record, I love the chord structure and Matty’s voice on it. I like the band but I really love that song.
“I love the way they paint a picture lyrically. They’re not so concerned with using huge words, it’s more like getting into people’s hearts with nostalgia,” he continued. His choice of cover therefore came as no surprise considering his love for the song.
Radio 1’s Live Lounge continues tomorrow with a surprise performance by Emeli Sande, who will hopefully be performing her brand new single ‘Hurts’.
