You might know him as the hilarious guy who starred alongside Matt Lucas in “Little Britain”, or as a judge on the talent show “Britain’s Got Talent”, or even as the author of a few successful children’s books, but now David Walliams is taking on a whole new role. It was recently announced that he would be presenting the annual spectacular known as The Royal Variety Performance 2016 which is set to air on ITV next month.
We are super excited to see what tricks he has up his sleeve, especially since he will be on stage in front of Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.
David will present the entire show from start to finish, which will see him introducing some of the most iconic acts from the world of music, theatre, magic, and general entertainment. There really is a mixed bag of stars who have been confirmed to attend the show so there will definitely be something for everyone.
Legends Barry Gibb and Sting are expected to be in attendance as well as superstars and former bandmates Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow, the latter of whom will showcase a preview of his new musical called, “The Girls,” which will open in the West End next year.
The cast of Gershwin’s classic musical, “An American In Paris,” are also set to take the stage at the annual show with the cast of The Beatles’ Cirque Du Soleil’s LOVE show who will be flying in from Las Vegas for a special anniversary performance.
Sheridan Smith will make an appearance, while dance sensations Diversity will return to the stage where they first auditioned for “Britain’s Got Talent,” back in 2009. Fellow talent show contestant and magician Richard Jones will also be presenting a much-anticipated performance.
Comedy will come from Joe Lycett, Alan Davies, and Rob Beckett who are all sure to earn a laugh from the thousands of people who will be watching as well as the two very important royals who will be sitting in the Royal Box just a few feet away from the stage.
There will also be some show-stopping performances from icons of the music industry Emeli Sande, One Republic, DNCE, and the star of the award-winning musical, “Dreamgirls,” Amber Riley.
Tom Fletcher from McFly will also premiere his new book, “The Christmasaurus,” with an enchanting production.
Just like in previous years, the show promises to be an unmissable one and there are still some surprises which are yet to be revealed.
When asked about his exciting new role, David said, “I am very honoured and excited to be hosting The Royal Variety Performance 2016. I was lucky enough to host it back in 2012 so I will be looking forward to another fabulous evening packed with huge talent.”
The event is held in aid of The Royal Variety Charity, whose patron is Her Majesty The Queen and any money raised from the show goes to people from the world of entertainment who need a little extra care and assistance. So not only do we get to watch an evening full of amazing performances, but we also get to know that it is all happening for a good cause. What could be better?
The Royal Variety Performance 2016 will take place at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, London on 6th December and if you aren’t lucky enough to actually be there then you can watch it on television on ITV or online on the ITV Player.
