Ward Thomas are a British country music duo made up of twin sisters Catherine and Lizzy. The girls released their debut album ‘From Where We Stand‘ independently back in 2014 before signing to Sony Music in 2016 and releasing their second LP ‘Cartwheels‘ that same year.
‘From Where We Stand’ was a huge indie success topping the UK Country Music chart and selling over 25,000 copies. The LP also won UK Album of the Year at the British Country Music Awards.
‘Cartwheels’, the duo’s sophomore release, was a massive chart success and became the first ever album from a British country act to go number 1 on the UK’s Official Album Chart.
Ward Thomas will be embarking on a tour of the UK in April and May, 2017. Tickets for the shows are on sale now.
The twins also have a very close bond with their fanbase and one of their most loyal supporters is Matthew who regularly attends multiple tour dates to support his favourite band and runs the @WardThomasFans Twitter account.
We wanted to find out more about the fan account so we spoke exclusively to Matthew about his journey to running the fan/update account.
Hi Matthew, can you explain how and when you first become a fan of Ward Thomas?
I used to have a music blog that was based around new and upcoming artists, anyway someone sent me a live video of ‘Who We Are‘ which I listened to and was instantly hooked and I’ve never looked back since.
Why are you a fan of Ward Thomas?
Their lyrics are amazing, and they have great melodies and the fact both albums sound so real and not over produced which is very rare these days (less is more). They are one of the best live acts on the scene!
What made you want to run a fan account for Ward Thomas?
To hopefully chat to other fans who share the same enthusiasm as I do for Ward Thomas and the fact I also love to share articles, pictures, videos and interviews with other fans, it’s great to have a little community of us all sharing and chatting all things Ward Thomas either online or in person.
Roughly how much time do you spend running your account?
Depends what’s happening from week to week, [it’s] really hard to give a rough answer to. I do spend quite a lot of time on the fan account every week, but I love doing it so time never really comes into it for me.
Do you have anyone who runs the account for you if for some reason you are away?
[no] I run the fan account myself.
How many followers do you currently have and do they talk to you and ask you things?
796 followers, other fans do ask questions all the time either by tweets or by direct messages.
Would you say you have met any friends online through your account?
I started out going to Ward Thomas gigs on my own, but since I started Ward Thomas Fans I’ve met some very lovely people who I usually meet up with at gigs and festivals. It’s very rare these days that I go to a Ward Thomas gig and I don’t already know someone, it’s nice to meet up with other fans and it’s great to introduce new people to each other.
Do you prefer to just write updates or post pictures on you account?
I prefer videos or pictures because posts do stand out a lot more and get noticed.
Have Ward Thomas ever noticed your account? If yes how did it feel?
Ward Thomas have noticed my account – they’ve liked, commented on and RT my posts many times. It makes me feel appreciated I suppose, no better feeling than your favourite band interacting with you!
What is your favourite Ward Thomas song?
What is your favourite thing about Ward Thomas?
The music and the fact they keep themselves to themselves and let their music do all the talking!
If you could say one thing to Ward Thomas what would it be?
Thanks for all the music and for being so kind.
Thank you to Matthew for taking the time out to answer our questions.
