At seventeen, AJ Lehrman is already taking over the world. We got the amazing chance to speak with this future superstar!
Who are your biggest musical inspirations?
My biggest musical inspirations are Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, and Gavin DeGraw.
How would you describe your style of music?
I’d describe my music as a combination of R&B and Singer-Songwriter; I’d call it “urban acoustic,” as if The Weeknd and Ed Sheeran were mixed together.
What is one song, you wish you wrote?
“The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” by The Script. I think it’s one of the most incredibly well written songs from a descriptive standpoint, story wise and melodically.
You’re touring with Pentatonix and have toured with S Club 7. What is that like?
Tour-life is the best! I love meeting so many different people all over and hearing how each person connects to music in his or her own way! I also really love how the whole crew becomes a family on tour, so it’s awesome in building close relationships. For me, the only thing about tour that is pretty difficult is being away from my parents and siblings!
Is there anywhere you would love to visit as part of a tour?
I’d love to go back to every place I’ve performed at so far because I’ve had the best time on tour! In addition, it would be really cool to go to South America so I can speak Spanish, which I’ve been studying since Kindergarten!
Tell us about your single “Tongue”.
“Tongue” is a story of feeling hurt from broken promises; One might think that it’s about a break up I had with a girl, but I actually wrote it from the perspective of feeling hurt from so many empty promises in the music industry. I’ve realized that I can’t depend on what other people may do for me, and I should only rely on myself and those who surround me.
You have a heart of gold working with multiple charities. Why is that so important to you?
Music provides me such a huge platform to share a message with the world, and therefore I want use that stage to hopefully better the world.
TigerBeat recruited you to help run their social media accounts. Any funny stories you can tell us about?
A few months ago at the iHeart Radio Music Festival, I was with my friends from The Vamps, and this rather-large, elderly man ran over and started belting out the words to one of their songs in a completely different melody!!!
