On Saturday April, 29th, Shania Twain made her massive comeback with the debut of her insanely catchy new single ‘Life’s About To Get Good’ at the Stagecoach Festival. The song which features lyrics including “life’s about joy, life’s about pain‘ and ‘I wasn’t just broken I was shattered‘, went down extremely well with the 70,0000 revellers and everyone is loving the new upbeat track which is Twain’s first since 2011.
The single is the first to be lifted off the country legend’s new as-yet-untitled album which is her first studio LP in fifteen years and will be released this September. ‘Life’s About To Get Good’ will drop this June. Speaking about the single, Shania Twain said: “I was at home, looking out at the ocean, and I said to myself, ‘Here I am stuck in this past of negativity, but it’s so beautiful out. I’m not in the mood to write a ‘feeling sorry for myself’ song. You can’t have the good without the bad. And that’s what the song ended up being about.”
There’s no denying that Shania Twain’s new music will be different to her usual hits such as ‘Man I Feel Like A Woman’, and ‘I’m Gonna Getcha Good’. The main reason for this is the fact that she is no longer working with her ex-husband and producer Robert “Mutt” Lange, the man who broke her heart in the most devious way by having a secret affair with her so-called best friend. Another reason is because Twain’s voice has changed since struggling with the vocal chord disorder Dysphonia.
The problem is on-going but is kept under control with rigorous voice exercises. You can hear on ‘Life’s About To Get Good’ that her voice is now a little deeper than it was but her vocals are sounding strong and clear and she is still as distinctive as ever. The song has also kept the upbeat tempo and tongue-in-cheek lyrics Shania is famous for. She has proven to the world that she doesn’t need Mutt and she is more than capable of creating a stonking country hit all on her own.
This new record has been entirely written by Twain on her own which she says was like “therapy“. It will be her most honest work to-date and will take listeners to dark places as she tells of her pain of her very public heartache and divorce, and struggle with her voice, but there is some lightness and lots of optimism thanks to her love with new husband Frederic Thiebaud who she married in 2011. She has confirmed that the LP will feature: “painful and melancholy ballads that evolved into completely upbeat songs”.
Speaking further about the album, Shania said: “It’s been a lot of hard work, but the most fun hard work I’ve ever done. I’ve had to learn a lot about independence on this album. I wrote all of the songs, so there’s a continuity there, I think, emotionally. There might be more variety on this album than on any (of my) other albums. There will be some surprises on there. I think there are a couple of things on there that are more classic me from the past. It’s relatable.”
The whole album has been produced by a variety of producers for the first time since her self-titled release way back in 1993, including Matthew Koma and Jake Gosling.
Along with talking about her eagerly anticipated new album in various interviews the hitmaker has also confirmed seven song-titled off the record including the name of her ear-worm of a new single;
‘Life’s About To Get Good’, ‘Who’s Gonna Be Your Girl’, ‘Swinging With My Eyes Closed’, ‘Light Of My Life’, ‘We Got Something They Don’t, ‘I’m Alright’, and ‘Hard To Love’.
Speaking about the songs to Rolling Stone back February, the 51-year-old said: ‘Who’s Gonna Be Your Girl: “It’s about feeling unappreciated and knowing that you are secondary. Having to live with someone that has different priorities and accepting that you’re not the most important thing in a person’s life.”
‘Swinging With My Eyes Closed’: “The fighter in me wrote that song. I was thinking of a boxer taking a swing, or a baby first coming out with his eyes and fists closed. They can’t even see yet and they’re swinging with their eyes closed.”.
‘We Got Something The Don’t: “I was sick in a hotel room and there was Major League Baseball going on just below the hotel in the dome. I was bummed out that I couldn’t go there and enjoy the game, so I wrote this song about the winning team and what I would feel like and I just got into the spirit of the game. It’s about feeling like a champion.”
The LP is rumoured to be titled ‘Triumphant’ and will be released this September, while ‘Life’s About To Get Good’ drops this June.
