Watch: Julia Michaels releases lyric video for follow-up single ‘Uh Huh’

Over the course of the last few months, Julia Michaels has gone from penning hits for music’s biggest names to becoming one of them herself.

The 23-year-old’s first single “Issues” has received massive praise among its worldwide success- between peaking at number 11 on Billboard‘s Hot 100, to being covered by Niall Horan during BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge. Now, Michaels is back with another soon-to-be smash under her belt.

“Uh Huh,” the latest from the in-demand songwriter-turned-soloist is a sexy, addictive track that proves to need nothing other than a few plucked guitar strings and Michaels’ idiosyncratic vocals.

“It’s electric how my lipstick makes its own way right into your kiss,” she coos on the lust-filled tune’s opening verse before a melodious, playful chorus soon follows. “Uh huh, I think you’re movin’ in too close/ But I think that it’s my body wanting it the most like uh huh!/ I don’t know what it is I feel/ But I know it’s my emotions going in for the kill, like uh huh! Uh huh!”

The newly released single, which flaunts a grungy blend of different genres and sounds entirely different than anything else in pop music’s atmosphere, was co-written between the rising star and her ‘song husband’ Justin Tranter. In addition to their producing credits on “Uh Huh,” Mattman & Robin were also part of the co-writing process.

On Monday, Michaels dropped the track’s accompanied lyric video. The visual features plenty of neon lights and a theme that perfectly aligns with the song’s flirtatious feel.

Julia’s debut EP titled Nervous System is expected to be released later this year.
