Liam Payne’s solo music was some of the most anticipated of the year. After getting right into the studio when the boys took a hiatus, fans expected Liam’s music to be the first to drop. However, Liam a little over a year in the studio making sure everything was perfect. He knew his solo debut would be big and he wanted to make sure it was all on his terms.
The reaction to his patience and dedication couldn’t have been better. Liam’s ‘Strip That Down’ was an immediate hit with fans. It’s the sound that people thought would be the most unique outside of the band and they were right. Liam’s got a hip-hop and r&b vibe, it’s evident from the music he listens to and the people he was working with before we got a taste of the solo stuff.
Now that Strip That Down has been out for some time and radio stations are already playing it, it’s on all of our summer playlists, and we’re sure it’ll be played at festivals around the country too – we’ve been patiently waiting for the video to drop. Now that it has, we’re even more in love with the path Liam has taken for his big debut.
If you’re currently experiencing a wave of heart palpitations, then you can come join us because we are too. It’s a sexy video, without being ‘too much’. They’re not at a club where we could get so lost in the video that we stop listening to the song. The dancers – who are SO talented – are easy to focus on because they’ve got the spotlight, and maybe more important than anything else, Liam is having fun!
Now, back to those dancers for a second, JaQuel Knight is responsible for the choreography and we have to say that he nailed it. Especially in 2:25 to about 2:45 – that’s the type of talent and sex appeal that sets this video apart from others. The entire video is wired that way – and it’s refreshing. Plus, Liam is stunning, so we’re not mad about the close ups and his dancing either.
Upon Liam’s big debut, he caught some flack for the line ‘I used to be in 1D, now I’m out free’ but he explained that he meant creatively. The boys haven’t spoken ill about their time as a band, but it’s been revealed (and it comes as no surprise) that they were limited with the style of music and the lyrics that they could put out (at the very least). Liam’s debut is what he’s been dying to do – this style is what he’s been itching to embrace, and it suits him.
‘I just wanna have fun and get rowdy’
If this is what we can expect from Liam in the future, we can’t wait to hear more. He said he was listening to some stuff in the car on his way to an event this morning and you can just see it on his face and hear it in his voice that he’s excited about everything he’s got in store, and so are we.
