“I strongly believe every single body is beautiful no matter what and we should embrace ourselves to the fullest.”
Several weeks ago, Lily Collins took to Instagram to announce her role in the upcoming film, To The Bone, written by Marti Noxon. The new movie is a dark comedy based upon a young woman’s struggle with anorexia. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones star hoped this announcement would clear up any rumors surrounding her sudden weight loss, but unfortunately that was not the case.
Despite Collins’ lengthy post explaining her new role and expressing her excitement for the experience, many people continued to flood her social media with comments regarding her weight loss. A fan of Collins’ decided to take matters into her own hands by creating a project on Instagram supporting Collins’ decision while simultaneously promoting body positivity. The fan asked her followers to send pictures of their bodies that would soon be made into a collage to show the beauty of all body types. The simple idea started out as a way to send love and kindness to Lily Collins to mask the abundance of rude comments she had recently received, but it turned into something way bigger. The post received many fan submissions, and was aimed at highlighting the beauty of all bodies no matter the size or shape. The kindness of her fans paid off, and the Instagram photo eventually caught the attention of Lily.
Collins was quick to show her appreciation for the fans and their message, then used the opportunity to once again, address her recent change in appearance. Collins commented, “wow thank you for this and to ALL of you who participated. I couldn’t agree more. Truly inspiring. Just so everyone is aware, I had already started to take into consideration the fact that I was going to be in the film ‘To The Bone,’ where I am playing a young woman who has an eating disorder, very shortly after those photos were taken. I was already very carefully losing some weight for the role so I understand if people may have noticed a bit of a physical change. I do appreciate all of your concern but I want to reiterate and promise I’m healthy and doing everything in the most cautious way possible. I couldn’t say so at the time because it hasn’t been announced yet that I was in the film but I hope this clears up any and all suspicions and comments. I strongly believe every single body is beautiful no matter what and we should embrace ourselves to the fullest. Nothing good comes from spreading negativity about yourself or others. I love you all and your support, concern, and love mean the world to me. I send it all right back. Always and forever xx.”
In the midst of filming for the upcoming movie, pictured above, Collins wanted her fans and everyone else to know that she is completely healthy and happy with her choice. The actor also did not shy away from sending words of encouragement and positivity to anyone reading the message. We love that Lily Collins is using her platform to promote the importance of self confidence and self love, and we wish her the best of luck with the new film.
