Broadway fans everywhere are thrilled to know that Hamilton co-stars Phillipa Soo and Lin-Manuel Miranda will not be parting ways so soon after Hamilton as Soo joins Miranda’s music-led Disney movie Moana.
Little is known about the character Soo is yet to play, but she will make her voice-acting debut as an villager on the island of Motunui.
The story of the teenage girl Moana is set almost 2,000 years ago in the Pacific Islands. Moana sets out to save her people and prove herself in her island. The main character will be voiced by Auli’i Cravalho, paired with Dwayne Johnson as the magical demigod that helps Moana on her journey. Together, they sail across oceans and fight monsters to do the impossible and find the one thing Moana has been missing her whole life.
The heavy influence of music in this movie is no doubt a followup of Disney’s Frozen that debuted in 2013. The movie was a massive success with children and adults alike, with the hit song ‘Let It Go’ was being sung in all corners in the world throughout the whole year. One of the co-directors Jared Bush also directed Disney’s massively acclaimed Zootopia. Disney is most likely hoping to make another musical hit with their newest animation feature.
Miranda is working as a co-composer with Mark Mancina for the soundtrack of the movie.
Although Miranda will be leaving Hamilton to focus on his lead in ‘Mary Poppins’ and the movie, Soo is so far set to stay as Eliza Hamilton while simultaneously doing the voice acting. Phillipa Soo was also on the off-Broadway smash hit Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812.
Moana is set to hit theaters on November 23, 2016.
