Nearly two decades after Clueless became a reality TV smash, director Amy Heckerling is on par with the idea to turn her hit series into a Broadway musical!
Heckerling told Entertainment Tonight that she is teaming up with Krstin Hanggi and Dodger Theatricals to bring Cher, Dionne, Tai and Amber to a larger, louder and even more totally awesome stage! Do you think there’s anything more worthy of a 90’s-girl scream than that? As if!
“I’ve written what they call the book, and it’s a jukebox musical,” said Heckerling of the play. One noteworthy example of a jukebox musical is Mamma Mia, in which the play revolves around already known songs.
Though Heckerling didn’t specify what songs might be included, Clueless fans are already chiming in on songs they would love to hear, such as “Supermodel,” and “All By Myself.”
Because Clueless is such a cult favorite, the process of casting the beloved characters is a task that may go by a lot slower than anticipated.
“I go, wow, this takes a lot,” said Heckerling of the Braodway production.
Fear not, Clueless fans. The 20th Anniversary is in July (can you believe it?), and you can rest assured that there will be plenty of Clueless to sink your fresh mani into until then.
