Sam Smith releases new single ‘Too Good At Goodbyes’

It’s been two years since Sam Smith last released any new music, but after a lengthy hiatus and plenty of teasing on social media, the artist is back and better than ever.

Returning with his comeback single ‘Too Good At Goodbyes’ today, Sam shows us a little of what we can expect from his forthcoming album. Written with Jimmy Napes and Stargate, the track is a stunning ballad which shows off Sam’s signature falsetto. Lyrically, the track is full of emotion and the use of a gospel choir during the chorus gives the song a powerful edge.

Every time you hurt me, the less that I cry
And every time you leave me, the quicker these tears dry
And every time you walk out, the less I love you
Baby, we don’t stand a chance, it’s sad but it’s true

Speaking about the track, Sam said it’s “about a relationship I was in and it’s basically about getting good at getting dumped. It’s been a long while since I’ve put any music out and I feel that this first single sets the tone of what is to come.”

Sam took to Instagram earlier today to thank fans for all their support so far. Whilst he said he’d been ‘insanely nervous’ during the week, he also stated that he was ‘so ecstatic to be back’.

‘Too Good At Goodbyes’ is the first single to be taken from Sam’s forthcoming sophomore album. Whilst the title and release date is unknown, during an interview with Zane Lowe for Beats 1, he revealed that the album will be out before Christmas. There will be two versions; a standard 10-track edition, and a deluxe 14-track offering.

In addition to releasing his comeback single, Sam has confirmed four intimate shows which will take place in Los Angeles, New York, London and Berlin from next week. Tickets are available through a ballot on Sam’s website, so make sure you get entering now!
