Ward Thomas have made chart history by becoming the first ever UK country music act to score a number 1 album.
The twin sisters Catherine and Lizzy first burst onto the scene back in 2014 with their independently published album ‘From Where We Stand‘, which charted at number 41, before getting signed to Sony Music.
Since Sony signed the talented sisters they have gone from strength to strength and they are now the most successful act in UK country music.
Their second album ‘Cartwheels‘ has now made chart history by being the first album from a UK country act to top the album chart! Their number 1 record beats the previous best which was held by fellow country duo The Shires who reached number 10 with their debut LP ‘Brave’ back in 2015.
Ward Thomas have shared their delight at their record number 1, saying to the Official Charts Company: “We literally don’t know how to find the words. This is completely crazy. We were just hoping for Top 40 and then here we are now! It’s been a crazy week and it’s been super tense”.
The girls also thanked their fans for their support of both them as a band and for supporting the country music scene in general: “Thank you so much everyone for supporting us and supporting a great genre. We can’t express our appreciation for the amount of support we’ve had. It hasn’t really hit us yet and we really can’t believe it.”
The talented twins have also shared their delight on Twitter:
