5SOS premiered their new song Valentine at the iHeartRadio Music Awards at the weekend, and we love it!
After winning the Fan Army award at the iHeartRadio Awards in 2015, they performed at the iHeartRadio Theatre in LA for the Fan Army Celebration. In an exclusive interview before their performance, 5SOS revealed they wrote the song with one of their inspirations, Justin Tranter, on Valentine’s Day 2017. As well as performing new songs Want You Back and Valentine, the boys performed old favourites She Looks So Perfect, Disconnected, Girls Talk Boys, Jet Black Heart, Amnesia and Waste The Night.
After the performance, 5SOS begun tweeting lyrics to Valentine and later they released handwritten lyrics in an Instagram post.
Valentine discusses a loving relationship that doesn’t need to follow typical Valentine’s Day traditions. This is certainly different to Want You Back where the boys long for a lost love to return.
Since the release of Want You Back, their first single in 2 years, 5SOS fans have been excited for Luke, Michael, Ashton and Calum to release their third studio album.
Want You Back has caused fans to speculate the upcoming album will have a different sound to their previous record Sounds Good Feels Good. Michael confirmed this by telling Billboard, “I think when all the new stuff comes out, it’s like a departure of our old sound but it still keeps elements of all the things we liked about it.” We’re definitely excited to hear 5SOS’s new sound but we hope they don’t change too much!
Fans are likely to hear Valentine live when 5SOS start their sold-out tour in intimate venues later this month.
