One of your favorite comediennes could be personifying one of your favorite childhood toys! Amy Schumer is reportedly in talks to take on the role of Barbie in an upcoming live-action feature from Mattel and Sony.
According to Deadline, Schumer will play a character who lives in Barbieland, among all of the various Barbie characters beloved by doll collectors. Unfortunately, Schumer’s Barbie gets kicked out, because she’s not perfect enough. She then goes on an adventure in the real world. By the time she returns to Barbieland to save it, she has gained the realization that perfection comes on the inside, not the outside, and that the key to happiness is belief in oneself, free of the obligation to adhere to some unattainable standard of perfection.
The movie definitely goes against the classic image of Barbie being a thin beauty but considering Schumer is encouraging feminism, gender equality and teaching women to embrace the skin they’re in, she’s the perfect fit for this role.
The film is set to be produced by Walter Parkes, Lori MacDonald and Amy Pascal. Production will begin in the spring for a release tentatively schedule in the summer of 2018.
