Avengers vs. X-Men? James McAvoy Pleads No Contest

In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, James McAvoy spoke out about the new X-Men movie, the future of Charles Xavier, and how the X-Men hold up against the Avengers.

Avengers vs. X-Men? James McAvoy Pleads No Contest 2

Considering this is the third superhero movie of the year — and the second Marvel film of the year — the X-Men definitely have some shoes to fill in order to become the film to watch this summer. Following Superman vs. Batman and Captain America: Civil War, X-Men: Apocalypse promises to continue to entertain and marvel (no pun intended) X-Men fans across the globe.

Talking with Christopher John Farley of TWSJ, James McAvoy talked about the possible future of Professor Charles Xavier in future Marvel films — most importantly, Deadpool. “My version of Charles, I’ve always thought was a little bit kinky, so I’d quite like to explore that,” stated McAvoy, with “that” being the Deadpool sequel. Considering that the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) has only given us the stern, strong-willed Professor X, I think it’s safe to say that we’d all like to see Wade Wilson frolicking with Charles Xavier (considering Wade’s already hung out with Wolverine in X-Men Origins: Wolverine). We’re hoping little James gets to explore this side of Professor X — especially if he gets to poke fun at the Merc with a Mouth.

And continuing with the rivalry that’s been harboring in the Marvel universe for years, McAvoy also managed to sneak in his usual tidbits against the Avengers. When asked if the X-Men could take on the Avengers in a fight, he said “There’s like eight of them and there’s a hundred thousand of us.” Considering the MCU plays by their own rules, there is no telling how the fate of either team will go — will they all acquire their complete teams? And what about characters that are part of both teams (i.e. Quicksilver)? But seeing as the comic Captain America #1 recently revealed Steve’s allegiance to Hydra, we’re not too sure we want to follow the comic books either…

And all fans of James McAvoy know that this isn’t the first time he’s thrown some heat at the Avengers — here he is at the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past (where it appears he just really wants to see the Capsicle without his shirt on).

We love James McAvoy, we love the X-Men, we love the Avengers, and we love the MCU — and we definitely hope you go out this weekend and watch X-Men: Apocalypse and catch James’ in all his Professor X glory.

We also love to hear from you! Make sure you leave a comment below or tweet us over @CelebMix with who you think would win a fight between the X-Men and the Avengers (and whether or not you believe that changes between the MCU and the Marvel Comics — no matter how bothered you are that #GiveCaptainAmericaABoyfriend turned into #SayNoToHYDRACap).
