Demi Lovato’s newest album “Confident” was released on October 16 and now she has opened up about the story behind one of the new tracks “Father.”
Her dad, Patrick Lovato, passed away in June 2013 and in a new video Lovato explains how she reacted when she found out. In the video she explains “I was very conflicted when he passed because he was abusive. He was mean, but he wanted to be a good person, and he wanted to have his family. When my mom married my stepdad, he still had this huge heart where he would say, ‘I’m so glad Eddie’s taking care of you and doing the job that I wish I could do.’”
Lovato knew that it wasn’t fully her father’s fault because he had a mental illness, something she has battled with herself for years. She has previously raised money for her Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program, a program she founded because of her father. Lovato has stated that the scholarship was “In honor of my dad and other people that couldn’t afford mental healthcare, I wanted to create a way for people to help others get the help that they need“.
