Disney has officially put the Ice Age franchise back on the big screen calendar. During its Destination D23 showcase this weekend at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, the studio revealed that the sixth installment in the prehistoric animated adventure comedy series will be titled Ice Age: Boiling Point and is slated to hit theaters on February 5, 2027.
The announcement, made during the fan-focused event Destination D23: A Journey Around the Worlds of Disney and hosted by Yvette Nicole Brown, confirms the return of Manny, Sid, Diego, Scrat, and the rest of the beloved herd for another round of animated adventure. According to Disney, the upcoming sequel is described as “a dinosaur-and-lava-filled madcap adventure that takes Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie, Scrat and the rest of the herd to visit never-before-seen corners of the treacherous Lost World.”
The film will mark the first feature-length entry in nearly a decade, following 2016’s Ice Age: Collision Course, which grossed $408.5 million worldwide. Despite being the lowest-grossing film in the series, Collision Course extended the franchise’s global reach, which has amassed $3.2 billion across five theatrical releases, a spinoff, and shorts that later found a home on Disney+ (Disney Plus).
Returning to the fold for Boiling Point are franchise veterans Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah, and Simon Pegg, reprising their voice roles. Disney first confirmed the project was in development during last year’s D23, though Saturday’s reveal gave fans the first concrete title and release date.
The Ice Age films, produced by Blue Sky Studios before its closure and later absorbed under Disney’s 20th Century Animation banner, have long been a key player in the family animation market. With Boiling Point, the studio appears set to tap into both nostalgia and the enduring appeal of its eccentric herd of misfits, while expanding into fresh territory with the “Lost World” concept.
The reveal came alongside several other updates from Disney’s animation pipeline. Chief creative officer Jared Bush also announced Hexed, a new original feature directed by Josie Trinidad (Zootopia+) and Jason Hand (Moana 2), while teasing progress on high-profile sequels like Toy Story 5, Zootopia 2, and Tron: Ares.
With the herd heading back to theaters in 2027, fans will once again watch their favorite prehistoric survivors stumble, squabble, and stick together through disaster—this time against the backdrop of dinosaurs, lava, and a perilous new frontier.
