8 million viewers tuned into last nights emotional EastEnders to bid a final farewell to the Albert Square icon Peggy Mitchell.
Fans of the BBC 1 soap were left in tears as they saw matriarch Peggy take her final breath.
The heartbreaking episode saw Dame Barbara Windsor give the acting performance of her life as she played the dying former landlady of the Vic.
Viewers saw the EastEnders legend take her own life after she was told she only had months left to live. Not wanting to succumb to her illness Peggy made the heartbreaking decision to take a handful of painkillers to help her die her own way, against the wishes of her two sons Phil and Grant.
The tear jerking moment also saw Pat Butcher dramatically return as a ghost as she promised her old friend she would never leave her side.
The poignant episode ended without the usual theme tune instead there was just the sound of a ticking clock that stopped as Peggy drew her final breath.
EastEnders fans will see Peggy Mitchell laid to rest in an emotional episode next week.
