Exclusive: Interview with Girl Friend

Girl Friend Band consists of Amory Neish-Melling and sister Eleanor. The electronic pop twosome have created a unique soaring sound that can be played in the best of clubs to cruising in your car with the windows down. Poignant and fun lyrics with a heavy beat make them perfect to play a summer fest like British Summer Time. With a new catchy single, we sat down with them for a quick chat.

Are you guys excited to be playing Hyde Park today?

Amory: We just came off stage about a half hour ago. So feeling really good. The reception was amazing.
Eleanor: The best thing was going off stage. (laughs)
Amory: Yeah, what a great place.

So how would you guys describe your sound?

Amory: Essentially it’s electronic pop. There is a big electronic element, synthesizers but more recently I’d say we switched to some live drums and bass. So it’s a bit more groove and funk in there as well, essentially it’s pop

So tell us about your new single “Hello Stranger”

Amory: Hello Stranger, it came as a consequence of co-write with our longtime collaborator and producer Rich Turvey, it was written quite recently actually. It still feels fresh to us. It’s still quite exciting to play it. It was recorded at Parr street, which is a famous studio in Liverpool. and Yeah the mix was done by a guy we a really into a guy called Louis La Roche he remixed our last single “tragic on the dance floor” which got a great reception online and so we approached him to do it again and he said yes and it sounded amazing so we decide that was the best thing to put out next.

So what are your plans for the future?

Eleanor: We have gigs coming up. We have a lot of day festivals coming up. Eventually we’re gonna have an album. Ready to release the first album towards the end of the year

Amory: We don’t have a date yet. we’re still writing and recording but that’s what everything is gearing towards. That’s the long game.
