Last week, the world was shocked and horrified to hear that following a court hearing, a judge ruled that Kesha would not be allowed to drop out of her exclusive contract with producer Dr Luke, who she alleges sexually and physically abused her for years.
Since then, members of the public and celebrities alike have rushed to show their support towards Kesha. A number of petitions have been started online – one in particular, which was started around a month ago, has since gathered over 190,000 signatures. A GoFundMe page has also been set up, in an attempt to buy her contract back from Sony.
Many celebrities have also voiced their support and have tweeted Kesha words of strength and encouragement. Lady Gaga, Lorde, Ariana Grande, and Lily Allen are just a few of those who have publicly shown their support. Lena Dunham was the latest to voice her thoughts yesterday, in an open Lenny Letter to Kesha. It is also known that Taylor Swift has made a $250,000 contribution towards helping Kesha get out of her contract.
Following the messages of support, Kesha has broken her silence and expressed her gratitude towards her supporters in a post on Instagram.
“I am beyond words in gratitude. thank you is not enough but it is all I have. a million times over and forever thank you. the support I have received has left my face swollen from tears. I love you all so much. ?a statement too large for this format is coming….”
Kesha has shown a great deal of courage, and we at CelebMix continue to stand with her. She deserves her freedom and the right to have her career back in her own hands.
