The wait is over! Pop queen Olivia Rodrigo has announced her new album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.

Released via Geffen Records, the album will be available worldwide on June 12. Taking to Instagram, Olivia said: “I am so proud of this record and I can’t wait for you to hear it.” Alongside this message, she has removed all of her previous posts, leaving just the album cover which features her in a pink dress on a swing. This is a departure from her previous album artwork, which were very purple-heavy.

The news of OR3 comes after weeks of speculation thanks to Olivia’s creative rollout, with fans avidly trying to work out what the new record was going to be called. A purple mural was spotted in Los Angeles which featured a giant ‘OR’ logo, which was gradually repainted to a light pink colour, marking the beginning of a new era.

The ‘OR’ was also later replaced with the word ‘love’. With her previous records being called SOUR and GUTS, initially fans were under the impression that this album would follow suit and be named after a four-letter word such as love. However, a voicemail on Olivia’s SOUR hotline later stated “The writing is on the wall, but the first message may not paint the full picture.”

Now, we finally know that Olivia’s highly anticipated third album will be called you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. Additional details of the album are few and far between at the moment, with a lead single and tracklist yet to be announced. However, what we do know is that the album has been produced by Dan Nigro, who also worked with Olivia on SOUR and GUTS.

In March, Olivia told British Vogue that the album is full of “sad love songs”. She also added that it was “a creative challenge to write from a joyful place. When you’re experiencing that you’re connected to someone, or feeling really good, you’re not in your head thinking about bittersweet poems.”

you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love marks Olivia’s third record, following the huge success of SOUR and GUTS. Her debut record SOUR catapulted her to global success, and features the number one singles ‘drivers license’ and ‘good 4 u’. The album broke the global Spotify record for the biggest opening week for an album by a female artist and topped the charts in several countries, including the US and the UK. She also won three GRAMMY Awards during this era, including Best New Artist.

Her follow up GUTS demonstrated growth and maturity in the young singer-songwriter, and was led by the smash hit singles ‘Vampire’ and ‘Bad Idea Right?’. Once again, the album topped the charts across the globe and led to Olivia receiving six nominations at the 2024 Grammy Awards. She later toured the album across the world, grossing over $209 million from 101 shows. The concert film is also available to watch on Netflix.
