What a year it’s been, indeed! As debut singles go, ‘Cake By The Ocean’ has been a resounding success for DNCE. The band, made up of Joe Jonas, Cole Whittle, JinJoo Lee and Jack Lawless, have sold over five million copies of the song worldwide.
‘Cake By The Ocean’ hit the top 10 of the charts across the globe in countries including the UK, US (Billboard Hot 100), Australia, Canada, Germany, Russia and Slovenia. The infectious track also reached the coveted number one spot in seven countries: Argentina, Israel, Latvia, Mexico, Poland, Venezuela and the US (Adult Top 40). The track also spent four weeks at number 1 in the UK Airplay chart.
Following its chart success, DNCE have notched up eight certifications. ‘Cake By The Ocean’ is Gold in the UK and Australia, Platinum in Canada, Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden, and 2x Platinum in New Zealand. They have also gained 2x Platinum status in the US, selling over two million copies of the song!
‘Cake By The Ocean’ has also been performed on some of the world’s biggest stages. DNCE took on the role of Johnny Casino and The Gamblers in Fox’s Grease: Live at the start of the year, and performed a rock and roll inspired version of the song. The band have also performed the song on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Graham Norton Show, and on Radio 1 as part of their Live Lounge set. Additionally, DNCE had the honour of performing ‘Cake By The Ocean’ at the Radio Disney Music Awards and the 2016 Billboard Music Awards.
There’s no sign of the song’s popularity slowing down either, as it still remains in the charts across the world. DNCE’s breakthrough has been incredible and they are growing from strength to strength continuously. The band are currently supporting Selena Gomez on her Revival Tour, but we don’t think it will be long before they are selling out global tours of their own. They have firmly cemented their status as our ‘new favourite band’ and we’re excited to see what the future holds for DNCE!
