New York based singer and acclaimed songwriter Stalking Gia has just shared her latest single. Called “Saddest Happy Girl”, the emotive track samples the famed nursery rhyme “Clementine”.
“Saddest Happy Girl” is a stunning mix of a classic melody with modern left of center pop sonics. The track thrills with soulful layered vocals, driving rock bass lines, and rich, dreamy strings. The track is all about having an existential crisis. She confides, “The pressure of having to succeed, find your life’s purpose, and find a partner in life while keeping up appearances can be daunting. Being the saddest happy girl just means that at the moment nothing particularly bad happened but nothing incredibly amazing did either. It’s this middle ground of peace…relaxing smiling in the sun with an underlining shadow following you of all of the things you’re not.” The relatable narrative is especially even more pertinent following the pandemic when many of us are back to working non stop and trying to achieve the goals we set out for ourselves. Stalking Gia reminds us to take a breather and find small moments of peace.
Stalking Gia is not only a singer but a songwriter, artist, actress model and entrepreneur. The multi-talented performer has collaborated with popular artist blackbear who took a sample of her single “Second Nature” into his track “Wish U The Best” from his platinum-certified 2017 album, Digital Druglord. Stalking Gia’s music touches upon themes including self love, navigating relationships, and giving into inhibitions.
