The Brits have become is the biggest day of the year in British music, and with the ceremony fast approaching we decided to have a look at just what you can expect on February 24th from the performances to the awards to what’s new for 2016!
The performances
We couldn’t be more excited for the performances this year, with the likes of The Weeknd, Adele, Justin Bieber, Coldplay and many more taking to the stage on the night. The Little Mix girls in particular have been hinting that they have some special tricks up their sleeves with Jesy stating ‘It’s full on, we’ve been in rehearsals and it’s gruelling. Proper knee pads and sticks.’ With Black Magic confirmed as the track, they’ll be performing we really can’t wait to see what happens!
However with every awards ceremony there’s always the pre-show fears of performers pulling out, and in this case, these are over Rihanna. Having already cancelled her performance at The Grammy’s along with two UK stadium dates recently, Brit Awards organisers (and fans) are pretty on edge over what the outcome is to be eeek! Come on Rhi-Rhi don’t let the girl squad side down!
The Nominations
No award ceremony would be complete without the errrr awards. But who’s dominating the nominations this year? Adele, Years & Years and James Bay are leading the pack with four nominations each which considering the success all three artists have had in the past 12 months isn’t surprising.
Nominations this year caused controversy through the posthumous nomination of late Amy Winehouse in the British Solo Female category due to her soundtracking the Amy documentary making her eligible for nomination. But there’s tough competition from the likes of Adele, Florence And The Machine, Jess Glynne and Laura Marling. Who wins? Well we’ll just have to wait for Wednesday!
Hotly anticipated award of Best British Video has just been narrowed down to five contenders – Adele, Ed Sheeran, Jessie J, Little Mix and One Direction.
Coldplay are undoubtedly one of the most successful bands in the world, but if they succeed in winning British Group and Best Album it’ll see Brit history being made for the most ever wins for both categories… but could competition from Adele hold them back?
Who do you want to win? What are your predictions?
The Awards
The awards themselves were designed by Scottish fashion star Pam Hogg and will once again all be unique. We won’t be able to see the final awards until the night but back in November the first images were released and they’re pretty snazzy aren’t they?
What else do you need to know?
Returning once again as hosts of the ceremony is TV favourites Ant & Dec, you can’t help but absolutely love their onstage banter and let’s be honest they’re part of the reason many viewers like you and I keep returning! It’s just been revealed this will be their last as presenters so who knows what tricks (or treats) might be in the bag for them… As for the Red Carpet this year we can envy, cringe and crave the celebrities looks live as Lilah Parsons and George Shelley will be holding the red carpet live show. Anyone else seriously looking forward to who looks hot and who well looks not, we’ll be sure to bring you all the red carpet looks on the night in case you can’t watch live!
Rumours have been circulating about the format of the tribute for David Bowie who sadly passed away earlier in 2016. We’ve heard some rumours of Kate Moss making an appearance…. This could be VERY interesting.
If like us you didn’t get tickets to the sold-out awards, be sure to check out the Red Carpet Live via the Brits Facebook Page and the awards at 8 pm on ITV1 for all the winners.
