Remember the dirty-pop girl group Fe-Nix that blew-up the UK Radio scene not too long ago, with their infectious remake of “My Boo”? If so you will surely remember their Indian-Irish singer Tanya G.
After the group dismantled, Tanya took a break like all the other group members from the music scene and they disappeared out of the spotlight, leaving fans sad and confused.
But now the singer who has often mentioned in interviews that she “wanted to perfect her craft” and has since been working on her new music and her brand.
Earlier this year, we saw that she had released her debut solo-single “Can’t Feel Your Love” which received support from BBC 1Xtra’s DJ Target, BBC Asian Network and also huge support from both Pirate and Community Radio stations across the UK. The track was playlisted for several weeks on end and is still being supported by these stations now!
Since then it’s been rumoured that she’s working on new material and has collaborated with some new Producers, DJs and artists and is ready to drop new music at any time.
And after her “Fe-Nix” days, Tanya has rebranded herself and now goes by the name “Tanya G” in the industry – and this was before we heard of a “Honey G”.
When introduced to Tanya’s solo material earlier this year, we got a strong sense of that Old Skool Garage sound, as we now know that the artist often identifies herself with that genre of music.
“I grew up on Garage so I can relate a lot of memories with Garage music. Therefore, whenever I sing Garage it gives me a good feeling. Good vibes really. I also have a love for dance music and urban music in general, so I find that Garage is a mixture of the two types of music. This works out perfectly for me!”
“Can’t Feel Your Love” was partly produced by DJ Paleface, who also produced Kyla “Do You Mind?” which happens to be sampled in Drake’s hit record “One Dance”. As Tanya would often say, “This is a good camp to be a part of at the moment”.
However, it’s all about Tanya’s new material.
She has recently released an upbeat cover of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive”, which already has people singing across the dance floors Worldwide, as the sassy garage newcomer is looking to continue the trend of making all things old, new again.
The single is already receiving support from clubs around the UK and radio stations internationally. And we definitely support the track and the artist!
“I Will Survive” has switched up its tempo and now has a fiery backing-track, but a viscous soulful voice which screams Empowerment.
