Stand Up To Cancer is an organisation with a goal; to end cancer from being a leading cause of death and to turn the sufferers into long-term survivors. Cancer comes in many shapes and forms, each significantly affecting those who are suffering from the illness and also their loved ones around them. Combining the powers of the entertainment industry with the skills of medical professionals, SU2C have been able to make progress towards their ultimate end goal since their development in 2007.

Realising the impact media and entertainment can have on real life issues and perspectives, in 2008 the first telethon was aired on September 5th via ABC, NBC and CBS in over 170 countries. From this first event along over $100 million was raised and sent directly to fund programmes and research into cancer cure and prevention. Over 1200 research scientists across seven countries has led to 19 “dream teams” which is a team of scientists working together to carry out research projects to address issues within patients care when battling cancer. Clinical trials are an important part of SU2C’s goal with over 9000 patients partaking in 160 trials leading to two life-changing treatments being approved. The American Cancer Society notes that at some point everyone is going to be directly or indirectly affected by cancer as in the US

One out of every two men and one out of every three women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime
To date over $370 million has been pledged to help fund these programmes, with famous faces in the bucketload offering up support. Celebrities as well as suffers have been sharing their stories of the trials cancer brings via the #reasons2standup tag and Bradley Cooper is just one of those sharing his experience having lost his father to lung cancer in 2011.
No one is ever fully prepared to deal with the overwhelming and complex journey that comes with a cancer diagnosis
Taking a large interest in the charity Cooper is acting as executive producer of the telecast alongside event producers Done + Dusted. Speaking about his involvement with the charity he could speak more highly of it, “Stand Up To Cancer works tirelessly to support those at the forefront of the fight against cancer. SU2C’s mission, to ensure that all cancer patients become cancer survivors, is one that is very close to my heart. I am proud to join forces to make this vision a reality and to be part of this movement that is dedicated to getting lifesaving treatments to cancer patients faster.” With 100% of the donations received going straight into cancer research programmes, big named support is vital in raising the profile even further, which Bradley has provided.I am proud to join forces to make this vision a reality and to be part of this movement that is dedicated to getting lifesaving treatments to cancer patients faster.” With 100% of the donations received going straight into cancer research programmes, big named support is vital in raising the profile even further, which Bradley has provided.
