2NE1 bids farewell as the band releases final video “Goodbye”

Last year, 2NE1 officially disbanded. The band were on hiatus for quite a long time so, the news of disbandment wasn’t unusual.

On 20 January (Korean time zone: 21 January), 2NE1 released one final music video as a group. The single “Goodbye” shows the journey Park Bom, Dara, and CL has covered so far.

Set in the black and white backdrop, the song takes you into nostalgia. The ballad music is combined with mild guitar strummings. Unlike other singles by the group, the combination gives a unique flavour to the song. Vocally, the song is quite beautiful. Each member’s voice has come out really well and each voice has succeeded in telling its own narrative although Minzy is not present in the video.

Minzy left the band earlier last year. Also, she did not appear in the release of “Goodbye”. As per Billboard reports,

“Although she appeared in old footage featured in ‘Goodbye’, former member Minzy did not participate in the release of the single. After departing the group last April following years of inactivity, Minzy took to Instagram on Thursday (19 January) to express her sorrow at not being included in the group’s final release. ‘It’s a shame that I had to find out 2NE1 will be releasing their final album through a news article,’ she wrote.”

2NE1 was a South Korean girl’s band formed in 2009 by YG Entertainment. The group garnered attention after they appeared alongside BIGBANG for “Lollipop”. Over past 8 years, the band has won many awards and have given fans some great singles.

During its course as a band, 2NE1 has seen a lot of ups and downs but the girls persevered to rise to the top. No wonder the band is popular worldwide.
