Heavy metal is not for everyone — it’s not like pop, rock, and R&B which are widely accepted and loved by most people. However, for those who get it, metal music isn’t just about the loud, unfathomable noise that most people hear. We have a deeper understanding of what metal songs are about, and that’s what makes it special. And if you’re one of those fans, you’ll be happy to know that this genre doesn’t just live in music — it’s also found a home in some great movies that I’m excited to share with you.

In this blog post, I’ll be sharing my favorite metal movies that I think metalheads like me will really enjoy. Most of these films are available on select streaming services, so you won’t have a hard time looking for them. Let’s start!

    This Is Spinal Tap (1984)

Alright, let’s start with the classic metal movie that almost every metalhead already knows. This Is Spinal Tap is a mockumentary about a fictional heavy metal band called Spinal Tap. It’s a typical fake documentary about the band’s up-and-downs, tour drama, and career issues in general. For me, the humor was on-point and well-executed. It’s literally a love letter to the genre that doesn’t take itself too seriously. If you haven’t seen it yet, trust me — it’s a great way to laugh at the chaos we all secretly enjoy.

    Trick Or Treat (1986)

If you’re a horror enjoyer, you’ll so love Trick or Treat. This movie is about Eddie, a high school kid who’s obsessed with a rock star named Sammi Curr. When Sammi dies, Eddie gets his hands on an unreleased record that—here’s the kicker—can bring Sammi back from the dead through the power of backward messages. There are also lots of cameos from Gene Simmons and Ozzy Osbourne and a soundtrack filled with great heavy tracks. If you’re planning to include this movie in your next TV streaming session, I’ve got nothing more to say but you’re on the right track.

    Metal Lords (2022)

If you’re looking for a newer metal movie, you’ll enjoy Metal Lords. This one’s a coming-of-age comedy-drama about two high school misfits, Hunter and Kevin, who are dead-set on starting a metal band called Skullfucker. Throughout the movie, they face school and social pressures while looking for the best bassist to complete their band. It’s got a killer soundtrack, too, with original songs produced by heavyweights like Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine. If you’re into metal’s DIY ethos and the idea of sticking it to the man, this one’s a great watch.

    Airheads (1994)

Airheads is a funny movie about three guys in a rock band. Chazz, Pip, and Rex want a radio station to play their song and simply want their band’s demo tape to get noticed so they take over the station with fake guns. I think, for me, the actors are what made this exceptionally beautiful aside from the story. Adam Sandler, Brendan Fraser, and even metal stars like Lemmy. You can watch this on several streaming services better with fast internet since it’s a relatively old movie.

    Heavy Trip (2018)

Heavy Trip is a comedy musical movie about a shy guy named Turo and his metal band, Impaled Rektum, from a small Finnish town. Okay, just typing their band name is making me laugh out loud. Alright, so this band has practiced for years but never played a show. When a big metal festival in Norway gives them a chance, they grab it by stealing a van, a corpse (yep, a corpse), and a drummer. It’s a great watch!

    The Bottom Line

If you want to hear metal music in a different scene, these movies are the way to go. No matter what genre you like, you’ll be able to find something that fits your preferences. Do consider these movies and if you ever watch them, please let us know if you loved them. I’m pretty sure you will! Happy watching!
