There’s no doubt that Troye Sivan is one of our favourite people. His career started on YouTube, making millions across the world fall in love with his charming personality and adorable Australian accent. However, his passion had always been for creating music. After making waves with his TRXYE EP and the emotional Blue Neighbourhood Trilogy of music videos, his debut album, Blue Neighbourhood, was released at the end of 2015. The album marked his transition into the music industry and the beginning of his rise to stardom. Troye also came out as gay in 2013, and consistently uses his platform to speak out about important issues, especially LGBTQ+ rights.
Troye went on to achieve amazing things last year. From touring the world to gracing magazine covers to making several TV appearances, it was the year he truly broke into the music scene. You can read our full recap of Troye’s 2016 here.
Even though 2017 has been a pretty low-key so far for Troye, he still has a large fanbase anxiously waiting for new music. In the meantime, they still want to stay up to date with everything going on in Troye’s world. What better way to do that than follow an update account on Twitter? We got a chance to catch up with two co-owners of @_TroyeSivanNews, a popular update account for Troye, to talk about their love for Troye Sivan and how they run their Twitter account.
Can you briefly introduce yourself?
Well, there’s a lot of us, about nine, but my name is Glo and I’m from Georgia.
I’m Gemma and I’m 15 from the UK.
Can you explain when and how you first became a fan of Troye Sivan?
Glo: I started being a fan of Troye when I stumbled on one of his covers on YouTube, ‘Heartbreak Girl’ by 5SOS. I instantly fell in love with his voice. Cliche, I know.
Gemma: His coming out video was when I really first found him and fell in love.
Why are you a fan of Troye?
Glo: I’m a fan because he has a great personality and a unique voice.
Gemma: I think he is an amazing, beautiful person with amazing opinions, voice, fashion, humour and personality.
What made you want to run an update account for Troye?
Glo: I created this account because there were only about one or two good/active update accounts at the time. I thought “Troye’s gonna start getting a lot of attention soon and people will want updates on him”, so I made one.
Gemma: I am a co-owner but I didn’t start the account, however, I feel that I spend most of my time looking at what he is doing so why not post it somewhere.
Roughly how much time to you spend running your account?
Glo: Like I said before, there are 8 other co-owners from all over the world, so I don’t spend much time on it. If I had to guess I’d say about 3-4 hours a day.
Gemma: I used to spend a lot more time when he was on tour and nominated for awards (like 1 or 2 hours a day) but now I only spend about 30 minutes.
Do you have anyone who runs the account for you if for some reason you are away?
Glo: Yes, I have people that run the account when I’m not able to.
How many followers do you currently have and do they talk to you or ask you things often?
Glo: We have 16k followers, and we try to interact with them (DM them back) as much as we can, but our DMs are so crowded.
Gemma: We like to keep the relationship very formal and often ask them about their day and post polls or quizzes. To keep the fandom as one!
Do you prefer to just write updates (keeping it writing/informative based) or post pictures on your account?
Glo: We mostly post information on Troye, but when he’s on a break and we have nothing to update on we play games like “complete the song lyrics” with our followers. It’s fun interacting with them and seeing them get competitive.
Gemma: I like pictures because I love his face (cringe) but I like to make sure people understand as well by posting tweets with lots of information!

Would you say that you have met any friends online through your account?
Glo: Yeah, I’ve made friends through this account and gotten close with some co-owners.
Gemma: Yes definitely, the followers are lovely and so are the co-owners! There’s so much to talk about having such a big common interest!
Has Troye ever noticed your account and how did it feel?
Glo: No, he’s never noticed us, I honestly don’t think he knows we exist!
Gemma: His family has but not him personally, we can only hope he will as we grow.
What is your favourite Troye Sivan song?
Glo: My favorite Troye song? There’s a lot of them but if I had to name one I’d say ‘Fools’ or ‘Ease’.
Gemma: Honestly I have no idea! I love the meaning of ‘Heaven’ but I love literally every song! It’s so hard!
What is your favourite thing about Troye?
Glo: My favorite thing about Troye is how socially aware he is. I think it’s important that people with a platform should use it to make their fans or followers aware of what’s going on in the world and Troye does exactly that.
If you could say one thing to Troye what would it be?
Glo: If I met Troye I would tell him how proud I am of him.
Gemma: I LOVE YOU – you have changed my life and I don’t know how I could live if I didn’t know you existed.
