Actor Jared Leto sent actress Margot Robbie a black rat on set of super anti-hero film Suicide Squad

It is no secret that Jared Leto went full method while portraying the Joker in Suicide Squad, and it’s a wonder how the rest of the cast coped. The latest to share a Leto anecdote is Viola Davis, who spoke to Vanity Fair about the day Leto sent his co-star Margot Robbie, who plays Harley Quinn, a black rat. Yes, really.

While Leto’s actions are undeniably weird – and have us curious as to whether anyone else on the set got his ‘gifts’ – Davis finishes her story by saying that it inspired her to “have my stuff together”, so the actor’s crazy shenanigans may yet prove worth it in the long run if it helped to bring out better performances from his fellow thespians. We can’t imagine they’d be too excited about working with him again though…

If you’re wondering what Margot did with the rat well, acclaimed film director Guillermo Del Toro took to Twitter to reveal that he had adopted the rat once production on Suicide Square was over and the rat needed a home in Toronto!

Directed by David Ayer and starring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman, Suicide Squad will open in the UK and US on August 5, 2016.
