Spanish singer Aitana is back! Less than six months after she finished runner-up to Amaia Romero on Spain’s hit TV show Operación Triunfo, she has released her debut solo single “Teléfono”. The single is very catchy and is giving us major flashbacks to Aitanas performance of Julia Michaels “Issues”. Her strong vocals shine through from start to finish and the single looks set to be a big hit for the singer, already hitting number one on Spanish Itunes. As well as this, the video gained one million views in only eight hours and is now sitting at over five million views.

It is hard to believe Aitana only rose to fame less than a year ago on the ninth season of Operación Triunfo, as she has already achieved so much. On Operación Triunfo she gave us stunning performances week after week including her renditions of Julia Michaels “Issues”, Dua Lipas “New Rules” and Sias “Chandelier”. Her performances saw her reach the grand final of the competition where she finished as the runner-up to Amaia Romero.
The show was highly successful with millions of viewers tuning in to each gala, and the sixteen contestants who made it into the Academy embarking on a nationwide tour over the spring/summer months.
Whilst on the show, Aitana competed in the Eurovision Gala in a bid to represent Spain at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. In this gala, she performed “Arde” as a soloist, “Lo Malo” alongside fellow contestant Ana Guerra, and “Camina” as part of a five-piece group. “Arde” placed second in the public vote and “Lo Malo” came third, both losing out to Amaia Romero and Alfred Garcia who won with their song “Tu canción” and went on to represent Spain in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest.
“Lo Malo” reached the top of the Spanish singles chart, giving Aitana her first number one. The single has since been certified triple platinum and the official video has amassed over 57 million views on YouTube.
