Alesha Dixon has released a new song, ‘Fire Lily Rising’, written for the closing scene of FIRE LILY, a new dramatic short film exploring racial injustice, collective humanity and the possibility of healing in times of crisis.

Co-written by Dixon and the film’s writer-director, British filmmaker Phil Dunn, the track was recorded alongside a full choir and serves as the film’s closing musical statement. Described as an anthem of resilience, hope and collective strength, the song is now available worldwide across all major streaming platforms, arriving as the UK marks the close of Black History Month.
Dixon also serves as an executive producer on the film, which brings together music, movement and storytelling to confront some of the most pressing social issues of recent years.
Speaking about the release, Alesha said: “‘Fire Lily Rising’ started as a song for a scene, but it’s grown into something that means so much more to me. Working on this film, and with this choir has been a joy! Music has the power to bring people together and for it to be coming out as Black History Month closes feels very meaningful.”
Alesha Dixon – Fire Lily Rising
Written and directed by Dunn, FIRE LILY is a 15-minute dramatic short set against the backdrop of a global pandemic, civil unrest and devastating wildfires. Its narrative centres on LeRoi, a Black dancer who is wrongfully detained by police while walking home during a night of worldwide turmoil.
When Officer Paulie tackles him, an encounter between the two men takes an unexpected turn, with time slowing and reality giving way to an ancestral landscape. Through poetry, visceral choreography and music, the film explores systemic breakdown, shared humanity and the potential for connection in the face of division.
The film made its world premiere at New York’s Urbanworld Film Festival in October 2026, earning acclaim for its ambitious blend of dramatic storytelling and physical performance.
For Dunn, the release of ‘Fire Lily Rising’ offers an opportunity to carry the film’s central message beyond the screen.
“The film is a testament to the transformative power of creativity in times of division and devastation. ‘Fire Lily Rising’ takes that message out beyond the screen, at a time when we need it,” he said. “Hearing it sung by Alesha with a choir, it’s hard not to feel stirred. I’m so pleased it’s now out in the world.”
FIRE LILY is produced by Dunn, Theresa Godly, Joyce Allen and double Oscar-winner Kim Magnusson, with Dixon, Obadiah Baker and Escape Route Films also serving as executive producers.
With ‘Fire Lily Rising’, Dixon extends her contribution to a project that places music at the heart of a wider conversation about resilience, solidarity and the power of collective expression.
