This holiday season welcomes a captivating musical experience as the maestro tenor, Allan Palacios Chan, unwraps a transcendent holiday experience with his latest Christmas single, ‘Coventry Carol/What Child is This,’ released on November 21st. Chan seamlessly weaves centuries-old musical legacy with contemporary allure, encompassing chant, baroque, pop, and operatic influences, marking a pinnacle in his transformative classical crossover journey.

This single finds its roots in a fortuitous encounter during Allan Palacios Chan’s 2022 philanthropic tour in the Philippines. Renen de Guia of Ovation Productions recognized Chan’s prodigious talent, leading to an artistic collaboration that brought him into the sphere of industry luminaries like LA-based agent Gina Orr [NSYNC] and acclaimed arranger and pianist Leonardo de Bernardini (‘Leo Z’). Distinguished as a “clarion high tenor”, Chan’s artistic prowess effortlessly embraces a diverse musical spectrum. Far from being just another holiday release, his latest single intricately weaves together historical essence and modernity, seamlessly melding the haunting narrative of ‘Coventry Carol’ —echoing ancient horrors of King Herod’s era— with the soothing embrace of the timeless Greensleeves melody of ‘What Child is This’.

Allan Palacios Chan’s musical prowess illuminates a compelling juxtaposition within his chosen melodies, beautifully articulating the inherent emotions of both sorrow and joy intrinsic to Christmas. ‘Coventry Carol’ reverberates with an emotive depth, delving into historical horrors and the chilling events during the time of Judea when King Herod ordered the massacre of the innocents, resembling a haunting lullaby for the innocents. Contrasted beautifully, ‘What Child is This’ exudes warmth and tenderness through its classic Greensleeves melody, encapsulating the multifaceted nature of the holiday—a season of both sorrow and joy, ancient tales and enduring hope.

Chan’s ability to seamlessly blend genres and emotions stands as a testament to his artistic finesse. Collaborating with accomplished artists, including Grammy Award-winning Eric Boulanger and a chamber orchestra comprised of graduates from esteemed institutions such as Juilliard and Curtis, he orchestrated a symphonic masterpiece at the Village Studios in LA. The deliberate fusion of voices, violins, violas, cellos, and other instruments crafts a melodic tapestry that not only delights the ears but also resonates deeply within the soul.

Chan articulates his artistic vision while reflecting on the contrast of these two compositions. He shares,

“I love the contrast this music provides and did not expect the subject matter to become so horrifyingly relevant as the world seemed to be set on fire during the recording process. With this music and (forthcoming) video, I aimed to create something truly beautiful, mysterious and enchanting—what I feel when I think of Christmas.”

Following the single’s release, an accompanying music video directed by Landon Donoho will soon grace our screens, set against the stunning backdrop of The Mosaic Mansion in the Hollywood Hills. This visual masterpiece aims to intertwine historical significance with a contemporary narrative, elevating the auditory experience into a captivating visual symphony through its thematic vision, and Chan’s musical inventiveness.

Allan Palacios Chan’s musical horizon extends far beyond this single release as he is poised to release a crossover album very soon. With reimagined classics like Billy Joel’s ‘And So It Goes’ and the Cranberries’ ‘Zombie’, ‘Coventry Carol/What Child is This’ serves as a herald of Chan’s visionary approach—a prelude to an exciting musical expedition. It’s more than just a musical offering; it’s a testament to his versatility and musical artistry, marking an audacious foray into a realm of musical fusion that commands attention. Allan invites his listeners on a transformative voyage where tradition seamlessly merges with innovation, promising an enchanting spectacle that encapsulates the true essence of Christmas in a profoundly resonant manner. His musical brilliance ensures an unforgettable experience, solidifying his position as an artist of immense talent and a force to be reckoned with in the ever-evolving musical landscape!
