Do you think you can roll with the Cyber Twinz? Well, Alma is back with a new single and a new sound in the triumphant ‘Cowboy’.
Your favourite neon-haired, party-animal pop-star is back with new music. Following the success of the forward-thinking, electronic Heavy Rules Mixtape, Alma releases ‘Cowboy’ this week.
Kicking off with a western-guitar twang, the track sounds exactly how the title would suggest. However, 50 seconds in, that electronic-devil burning inside the 22-year-old is released for her chorus cries of “I’m a cowboy, remember my name and where I came from”. It’s a fresh take on her trademark sound that is fast earning the Finn a reputation as the next big pop disruptor. The track, produced by super-creators Bloodpop, shows a new side of Alma who is currently working on her debut album.
The pop-star has previously spoken of her desire to make different sounding tracks to the massive club fillers of ‘Chasing Highs’, ‘Bonfire’ and ‘Don’t You Feel It’. That was clear to hear on the Heavy Rules Mixtape, which flipped from the bottle-pops and thumping bass of ‘Legend’, to the dreamy electronic percussion of ‘BACK2U’ and almost tropical sounds of ‘Dance For Me’ with fellow Scandinavian Mø. ‘Cowboy’ is yet another daring break away from the club-filling formula that leaves taste buds tingling for that debut album, expected for release in 2019.
Alma has recently taken her high-energy sets across the U.K. and the U.S.A. in support of that mixtape, as well as playing a supporting slot at both of Halsey’s Eventim Apollo dates late last month. If you’re looking for a wild, care-free pop show, you need to catch Alma and her twin sister Anna turning crowds into a sweaty mess sometime soon.
