For those who did not know, there’s a musical version of the beloved animated movie, Anastasia, coming to Broadway in 2017. The artwork debuted this week for fans across the world.
The fairly new production first premiered on the Hartford Stage in Connecticut this Spring and broke records. As a result of high ticket demands, additional performances were added to the show’s run, which ran throughout May and June. The original Hartford Stage cast will reprise their roles in the Broadway adaptation.

The musical also brings back some faces familiar to Broadway. Tony winner Darko Tresnjak serves as director, and Peggy Hickey serves as choreographer. In addition, the production reunites the Tony-winning team of composers Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, and book writer Terrence McNally. Flaherty and Ahrens combine songs from the 1997 animation with a score of all new songs, while McNally provides the audience with a brand new book to go along with the show, too.
Here is the first promotional artwork for Anastasia on Broadway and it is more than stunning. The caption references the animated film’s Oscar-nominated song, “Journey to the Past.”
This is what fans can expect to see, according to the Hartford Stage website:
“From the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, the new musical, Anastasia is the romantic, adventure-filled story of a brave young woman attempting to discover the mystery of her past. The new musical is inspired by the Twentieth Century Fox Motion Pictures.”
Until the announcement of a live-action film adaptation, we definitely have the Broadway premiere to look forward to.
Tickets for Anastasia go on sale this Fall at AnastasiaBroadway.com. Opening day is April 24, 2017 at the Broadhurst Theater, with the previews beginning on March 23.
