Following the suicide bomb attack at Manchester Arena in May, Ariana organized the One Love Manchester concert two weeks later, to commemorate the lives that were lost that night.
Ariana was joined by the likes of Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Take That, Robbie Williams and many more to celebrate music and show their respect to the families who lost loved ones on that tragic night.
The concert raised almost £3 million for the ‘We Love Manchester’ emergency fund.
Ariana was not expected to make such a huge gesture, being as she must have been so traumatized by the experience as well. Sir Richard even said it would have been understandable if Ariana “never wanted to see this place again”.
However, she knew she had to do something to help and went to her manager Scooter Braun to help organize a concert to pay tribute. Alongside organizing the concert, Ariana also made a visit to the hospital where all the injured were being treated.
As it was such an honorable thing to do, Ariana had been put forward to become the very first honorary citizen of Manchester. Councilors unanimously accepted the proposal for the star to be the first recipient in a new system recognizing people who have made an outstanding contribution to the city without living in it.
The proposal was discussed in detail at a council meeting on Wednesday, July 5th, attended by family members of some of the victims.
“As well as honouring the victims and all those affected, it is important that we remember the extraordinary acts of courage and generosity of spirit which we have witnessed.”
