Cesár Sampson was born in Linz, one of the largest cities in Austria, in 1983. He first made his mark in the music industry at the age of seventeen when he toured the world with some of Austria’s biggest acts including Sofa Surfers and Louie Austen. The singer also worked behind the scenes in the industry, turning his hand to songwriting and producing.
Cesár is no stranger to the Eurovision Song Contest and has been a part of Bulgaria’s entry in 2016 and 2017. He performed backing vocals for Poli Genova’s track “If Love Was a Crime” and Kristian Kostov’s “Beautiful Mess” respectively. Poli took fourth place in the 2016 contest, and Kristian just lost out to Portugal’s Salvador Sobral in last years contest. As part of the musical group Symphonix International, he was also heavily involved in writing both songs.
In December last year, the Austrian broadcaster Österreichischer Rundfunk announced Cesár as Austria’s representative for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. He was chosen through an internal selection and will be performing in the first semi-final on 8 May.
