Who is Franka?
Franka Bateli, better known by just her first name, is a Croatian singer-songwriter who started a career in the spotlight by winning the first season of Showtime. Showtime is the Croatian equivalent to The X Factor or American Idol so you can imagine how much of a big deal she is in her home country.
The singer-songwriter was born in the Rijeka area of Croatia to parents Ingrid and Damir Bateli. She has a younger brother named Nikola who is the guitarist of a Labin-based band going by the name of ‘Storm’. Bateli first started singing at the age of three when she was a soloist in the Minicantanti choir and also sang in Rabac’s St. Andrew Catholic Parish Church Choir.
To pursue a singing career, Franka spent several semesters at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts yet later enrolled at the Zagreb School of Law in her home country. It wouldn’t be until 2007 when she would get her big break by winning the first season of Showtime. Following her win, the singer-songwriter signed to Croatian music label Hit Records and embarked on becoming a singing sensation in her home country.
