What else do you need to know about the band?
Kings of Leon is composed of brothers Caleb, Jared, and Nathan and their cousin Matthew. The band was formed in Nashville, Tennessee in 1999.
Having been brought up by a Pentecostal preacher father, the Followill brothers managed to break from their religious upbringings, and created a sound that captured the grungy, rock feel of the late 90s. Heavily influenced by big names in rock, like the Stones and Zeppelin, the band began making music and were signed onto RCA by 2002.
Although the band was a huge success in the UK, they didn’t receive any American chart attention until 2008, with the release of their fourth studio album Only by the Night.
The band, however, is a remarkable group of men. As many fans will note, Kings of Leon have managed to achieve and maintain a large amount of success despite their personal issues. Among those issues have been eating disorders, alcoholism, and depression — which the band have all come to openly address in interviews and their music.
With tremendous amounts of openness and honesty, the Kings of Leon have come to symbolize rock music that speaks about issues that are relevant to their fans. Althought the sound of their music is sufficient enough to have you nodding along, their lyrics are dark, deep, and powerful.
