Ryland started off his musical career playing drums in a band with his siblings, Rydel, Rocky, Riker, and Ross Lynch. Since he was around eight years old at the time, Ryland couldn’t keep up with his older siblings and the band, R5, later found a new drummer, Ellington Ratliff. After ‘kicking him out’ of the band they decided Ryland could be their manager instead, until they found a real manager. During R5’s shows Ryland stood at the merch stand and sold the band’s merchandise. Watching his siblings perform on stage made Ryland want to do the same. He started doing more behind the scenes work at the band’s concerts, including working the lights. Then one year for Christmas his mother, Stormie, bought him a DJ table and soon after Ryland began opening for R5.
