It’s never easy to address emotional difficulties whether it’s negativities, overthinking thoughts, nervousness, or heartbreak and just ignoring them doesn’t make them go away, that’s what Aryeè The Gem has realised so she’s decided to create the R&B track, “To It”, in the hope that she can inspire others to shine a light on these emotions and turn them into a strength rather than a weakness. She has also dropped an official music video, that relates well with the song by showcasing self-reflection and conceptual symbolism. This is the follow-up to her 2022 single, “Spring”, and also marks her first official single from her upcoming debut solo EP.

Aryeè The Gem, real name Aryana Damesha Jackson who hails from Milwaukee, WI, later being raised in Mobile, AL, is a versatile singer-songwriter currently residing in Atlanta, GA. Her artistic journey traverses the realms of music and emotional well-being, using her craft as a means of expression and healing. Aryeè The Gem’s deep connection with music began at a young age, as she found herself immersed in choirs from her early years in elementary school all the way through her collegiate endeavours. Drawing inspiration from luminaries of Neo Soul and R&B, such as Lauryn Hill, Jill Scott, Tina Marie, Vivian Green, Alicia Keys, and Brandy, Aryeè The Gem seamlessly weaves together alternative R&B and hip-hop influences to curate a unique and vibrant sonic landscape. With an upcoming debut EP set to be released in the summer of 2023 under the esteemed Saint & Citizen Music label, Aryeè The Gem invites listeners into her world, offering a captivating blend of sounds reminiscent of Victoria Monet, Syd, Ari Lennox, and Solange. With a profound passion and a love for music ingrained within her, Aryeè The Gem channels her artistry to create an immersive and transformative experience, bridging the gap between music, soulful expression, and personal growth.

“This song was inspired by one of my character flaws, which is overthinking. There have been periods in my life where things have been difficult, and I was immersed in the feeling of the unknown. In those times, I learned who I really was through my ability to face those problems and work through them, instead of masking them with things that would provide temporary relief. Ultimately, I wanted to shine a light on those emotions that aren’t necessarily deemed as ‘positive’ and emphasize that those feelings are equally as important,” Aryeè The Gem said, fully going on to discuss her new song “To It”. “My intention for writing this song was to give a voice to the discomfort of transition. Growing and healing is not easy and is sometimes glorified without acknowledging the actual work within it. Instead of wallowing in my shadow, I’m allowing myself to alchemize some of my ‘lower vibrational’ feelings in a way that honors and respects them, while simultaneously pushing past them to elevate – If the only constant thing we have in life is change, then we all must keep getting to it.”

Written by Aryana Damesha Jackson, Christopher Robinson, and Joshua Matthew Covil Jr, whilst it has been produced by Trakmatik, “To It” is an addictive alternative R&B track that shines a huge light on Aryeè The Gem’s incredibly smooth and soulful vocals. Full of so much emotion and integrity, Aryeè The Gem effortlessly stuns all listeners with her perfect vocal runs and skilled pitch as she delves into her awesome lyrics about facing those feelings that we’d rather forget about or push to one side. By turning towards them, Aryeè The Gem has become a better person and therefore a better artist; the awesome rhythmic tones of “To It” alongside the unforgettable melody only emphasise her amazing voice. The backing track also makes its own statement as it builds and progresses, ending the track with a personified collection of beats that gives the listener the feeling of belief in oneself and that we can all address those character flaws and turn them into something positive.

As for the music video, directed by the cinematography duo MOM, with OPHELIA acting as producer, we watch Aryeè The Gem completely perform the hell out of “To It”, giving fierce energy and star vibes. Various scenes showcase Aryeè The Gem self-reflecting as well as her going through the motions of overthinking but she refuses to let it defeat her instead she personifies it for us, right on the screen, and showcases her ability to make it a positive thing and not letting the darkness consume her. Bringing it in every way, this conceptualised music video is easily memorable and tells the story held within the lyrics. Aryeè The Gem blows us away with this visual, and it’s no surprise as her star quality is distinctive and visible.

Talking about the music video, Aryeè The Gem said: “The video represents freedom, hope, and experiencing that place where the weights of life feel lifted from my shoulders.”
