Back in July 2015, former JLS star Aston Merrygold made his solo debut with the infectious ‘Get Stupid’. Now, almost three years later, the song is making waves on charts across the globe once more thanks to a Samsung advert.
You may well have seen the advert for the Samsung Galaxy S9, which was launched worldwide back in February. Even if you haven’t paid attention to the visual itself, you will have definitely heard the unmistakably electrifying beats of ‘Get Stupid’ which acts as the advert’s soundtrack.

At the initial time of release in 2015, ‘Get Stupid’ charted at number 10 in Australia and reached the top 40 in the UK. Following the launch of the advert, the song has now made its way into charts across the globe. ‘Get Stupid’ is currently charting in 36 countries, including the top 40 in the USA. On top of that, the track has ensured that the Samsung advert is currently the number one most Shazamed advert in the UK, beating the likes of H&M, Missguided and Marks and Spencer.
Speaking about the track’s new success, Aston said: “It’s amazing to see ‘Get Stupid’ back in the charts as part of the Samsung Galaxy S9 campaign. The advert has given the song a whole new lease of life. I’ve always believed in this song so I couldn’t be happier it’s getting this recognition.”
To celebrate the song’s new journey, Aston recently teased that he will be releasing a brand new music video for it very soon. The singer shared a picture on Instagram after filming a new version with help from the likes of Strictly’s Katya and Neil Jones.
In addition to relaunching ‘Get Stupid’, Aston is currently in the middle of a UK tour, having already performed in Manchester, Glasgow, Birmingham, Norwich and Sheffield. He will play Liverpool’s O2 Academy 1 tonight (April 14) before playing London’s Koko on the 15th, Dublin’s Button Factory on the 17th and Belfast’s Empire on the 18th. Remaining tickets are available here.
Later this year, he will also be heading out on the Rip It Up tour with Louis Smith and Harry Judd. Putting their Strictly Come Dancing skills to the test, the two month UK tour will see the trio performing to the hits of the 60’s.
Alongside his thriving career, Aston is also enjoying a busy personal life after welcoming his first child, Grayson Jax, with his fiancée Sarah in January. The couple will also be getting married later this year.
