The National Autistic Society Releases A Video Showing A Day In The Life of Someone with Autism

A powerful video was released for autism awareness day that shows what it’s like to spend just a few moments in the mind of someone with autism on something as simple as a trip to the mall.

The video easily brings tears to the eyes of anyone who watches it, but it also poses a challenge; be more kind to the people around you, you never know what silent battles they are fighting.

The video is titled ‘Can you make it to the end’ and while it’s shorter than two minutes, the message it sends will stay with you forever.

While walking through a store, mall, or center is easy for most of us – in the mind of someone who suffers from autism, they are constantly in information overload – everything is more.  Sounds are louder, lights are brighter, and the simple stepping of feet that most of us pay no mind to resonates in their mind.

Perhaps the part of the video that pulls you in the most is that it’s a child, and at the end he reiterates the fact that he’s not naughty, he’s just autistic.  Autistic children are normally seen as defiant or hard to handle while in their mind – it’s the world that’s hard to get a grasp of.

Not many videos or material exist showing what really goes on in the mind of someone who suffers from autism.  While some people affected by the disorder can’t speak at all, others who can just don’t know how to explain what’s going on – either because it’s all they’ve ever known, or because it’s hard to explain how it feels to be constantly overwhelmed.

If you’re looking for more information on autism and and how to understand and help – visit The National Autistic Society and get informed and involved.  The world can be a nicer place for all of us when we choose to be more understanding.
