Pop-rock diva Betty Moon just dropped her new single, “Parachute.” The song is from Moon’s latest album Chrome, and features her spine-tingling sensual voice, as well as flavors of dream-pop, electro-pop and funk-lite.
Originally from Toronto, Moon relocated from the great white north to SoCal’s sun-filled landscape in 2010. Films and shows like Californication, Dexter, Bounty Hunters, and Walking the Dead have featured her music.
While in high school, Moon sold more than 10,000 self-recorded and self-manufactured records. Her remarkable success caught the attention of A&M/Universal records. The company signed her to a recording deal, propelling her into the limelight with her self-titled debut album. She’s received four CASBY nominations and appeared with Marilyn Manson, The Offspring, and Quiet Riot.
“Parachute” packs a funky electro-pop groove, along with radiant waves of sonic color on the chorus. There’s just a hint of dream-pop aroma emanating from the music, giving it a creamy, undulating essence glowing with iridescent sparkling accents. Shimmering metallic guitars mousse up the texture and flow of the music, adding depth and tonal dimension.
Luminous background harmonies complement Moon’s simmering voluptuous tones, infusing the tune with an enhanced gliding sensuality.
The lyrics, cool and stylish, balance Moon’s yummy voice with the myriad colors and palpable energy of the harmonics.
“Smooth riding / On a dark purple night / Breaking out through the sky / Times flying / Gonna put it in drive / Chasing down the moonrise / Go uptown baby / Where the world goes crazy / I’m not afraid of falling / It’s the freedom I’m wanting / Packed a parachute and / Now it’s time to fly.”
“Parachute” provides a luscious, penetrating electro-funk melody full of savory dream pop hues. The pulsing rhythm is contagious, while Betty Moon’s proximate, evocative voice gleams with glossy surfaces and textures.
