Beyoncé just announced a new world tour after the release of her latest single Formation!
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, it’s been hard not to notice Beyoncé these last few days. Queen B released a surprise single, with an accompanying music video, called Formation which quickly became the most talked about event on social media. She then proceeded to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show with Coldplay and Bruno Mars. After the performance, she announced The Formation Tour, where she will be touring in North America and Europe.
Formation is Beyoncé first song since 7/11 was released on her album Beyoncé: Platinum Edition in November 2014. The single is available for streaming and free downloading exclusively through Tidal. The music video was directed by Melina Matsoukas, who has directed eight other videos for the superstar since 2007, the most recent one being Pretty Hurts.
The video, which features Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy, was shot in New Orleans, Louisiana. In the video, Beyoncé is seen sitting and standing on top of a New Orleans police car, while parts of hurricane Katrina-affected areas of the city are shown throughout the video. However, Beyoncé and Matsoukas have been accused of using footage that does not belong to them. Producer Chris Black tweeted that they used footage from Abteen Bagheri’s That B.E.A.T., which they did not have permission to use. Black later tweeted and deleted, “My response was Beyoncé doesn’t need our charity. But here it is. No credit. No surprise.”
Beyoncé’s reps gave the following statement to EW:
“The documentary footage was used with permission and licensed from the owner of the footage. They were given proper compensation. The footage was provided to us by the filmmaker’s production company. The filmmaker is listed in the credits for additional photography direction. We are thankful that they granted us permission.”
Beyoncé’s world tour later this year is named after Formation. The diva will be making 37 stops across North America and Europe. The Formation World Tour will kick off on April 27 in Miami, Florida, and it is set to close on July 31 in Brussels, Belgium. The pre-sale for American Express card members starts on February 9, and the general sale begins on February 15 in Europe and February 16 in North America.
