“Broken Home” is the twelfth track on 5 Seconds of Summer’s sophomore album, Sounds Good Feels Good. The song was written by 5SOS, John Feldmann and Joel and Benji Madden.
She would hope, she would pray, she was waiting it out
When parents argue, it’s a natural reaction for a child to pray and wish and hope that the arguing will stop. Hoping that the negativity will turn into something positive.
The girl in the song wants nothing more than her parents to stop the yelling, the screaming and the fighting. She waiting it out, waiting to see if it will all stop and all the hurt and the pain she feels will pass.
Holding on to a dream, while she watches these walls fall down
Her dreams of something more, her dreams of a happy family are falling down right in front of her eyes.
To children, and the girl in the song a their home is a safe place. Not just the physical home with walls and a roof but their family all surrounding them becomes a safe haven for them- let’s them know their protected.
“I’m here alone inside of this broken home”
The fault, the blame, the pain’s still there
Even though it’s not her fault, she feels to blame. She feels that she is the reason for the pain the reason for the fights, the screaming.
She wonders if she caused this. She wonders if she did something wrong, telling herself she should have done something differently. Even after the chaos stops around her and the fighting comes to a brief halt, the fault the blame and the pain is still there.

In the second verse every line is powerful. Not only lyrically but the vocals in the song really help show the pain she is feeling. The music gets louder, the drums come in and represents the anger and pain the girl in the song feels.
“She’s a scar, she’s the bruises, she’s the pain that you brought”
The song quickly became a favorite among 5SOS fans because of how relatable the song is. It’s a favorite because it lets them know they’re not alone, let’s them know that other people are going through this.
