BLACKPINK make history as ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ hits 1 Billion views

BLACKPINK has made history as their music video for ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ hits 1 billion views.

The KPOP powerhouse has become the first Korean group to ever reach this milestone, doing it one year and five months after the release of their revolutionary single. They are also the first Korean artist in almost seven years to achieve this since PSY’s global hit ‘Gangnam Style.’

DDU-DU DDU-DU completely changed the course of BLACKPINK’s career. The track peaked at Number One on South Korea’s Gaon chart and reached Number One on all music charts achieving ‘perfect all-kill status’. Across the pond, the girls made history as the single became the first Korean girl-group song to chart in the UK Official Charts at 78 and became the highest-peaking single at the time for a Korean girl group on the Billboard Hot 100 at 55.  As of October 2019, the hit has sold 1.2 million units in America and became RIAA certified Gold. DDU-DU DDU-DU has also sold 11 million units worldwide to date.

Critics also took a liking to the track, with The New York Times ranking the track in their 65 Best Songs of 2018 at 31, while the song landed at Number 13 in Paper Magazine’s Top 20 Best KPOP Songs of 2018.

DDU-DU DDU-DU introduced BLACKPINK to a wider fanbase. With its catchy chorus, an infectious beat and iconic dance routine and will always hold a piece of history for the quartet as the track that skyrocketed their global stardom and proved that BLACKPINK really is the revolution.
